Many years have passed since then. As we watched tv in the living room, a commercial for beer appeared. The beer was probably a Heineken. It was shown being poured into a frosty mug of cold, crisp refreshing beverage. There was a bubbling froth encasing the ice cream, and our mouths watered! His wife ran out to the store and brought him a six pack.

After placing them on the counter, we looked at each other as if we were mischevious teens sneaking into their parents’ beer before taking it to the head. Our disgusted faces would have made you guys laugh, I wish you guys could have seen them. There was no first time for us to drink beer. After trying several different brands of this stuff, we could not even get past the first sip! The smell is just so nasty!

It sure would be nice if we could get over this since I feel like I am completely missing out on something! The only beer-infused foods we’ve enjoyed so far are beer punch and beer battered fish, you know, things that are actually edible. I just can’t stop thinking about this chocolate Guinness beer cake, too! Yes, that’s the way beer should taste.

He was a little hesitant about trying the beer cake. As soon as I asked him to bring back some Guinness beer, he looked at me like he wanted to give up already. In response to my beer cake announcement, he made his imaginary pucking gesture. When I told him it was a chocolate beer cake, he was surprised.

Despite his suspicions, his curiosity was piqued and he decided to explore the store. The father day cake was something I knew I would love. Similar to club soda, beer adds lots of fluff to the batter with its sharp, bubbly taste. The combination of chocolate and beer works well. There’s no explanation for how it works, but it does.

There’s nothing big about this cake that reminds me of beer. Although it does have a slight “twang,” I wouldn’t think of beer if I were attempting to identify the flavor. Just not as dense as chocolate sour cream pound cake, this cake reminds me of chocolate sour cream pound cake. Tender, thick, and chocolatey, this Guinness beer cake is made with Guinness beer.

This cake is perfect with the smooth chocolate buttercream frosting! If you are serving this cake, you MUST serve vanilla ice cream on the side! Just to be clear, you MUST serve this cake with vanilla ice cream! I love how delicious this cake and frosting get when that ice cream begins to melt into them! This would make a vanilla buttercream frosting taste delicious as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chocolate Guinness cake served with anything specific?

You will probably have leftover Guinness beer since you only need 1 cup in this recipe. The cake will go well with it! You can use extra Guinness cans or bottles to make Guinness floats, skillet stout brownies, or any of our Guinness recipes.

How do you make chocolate Guinness cake with baking cocoa?

The simplest definition of baking cocoa is that it is chocolate or cocoa powder used to bake. Whenever a recipe does not specify, such as “baking cocoa,” use regular cocoa powder rather than Dutch-processed cocoa, which interacts differently with leavening agents.

Find out which cocoa powder is best for this chocolate Guinness cake by checking our Test Kitchen’s picks. The different types of chocolate cake that can be used in baking can be found here.

Is any beer suitable for Guinness Chocolate Cake?

There is something unique and bold about the flavor of Guinness Foreign Extra that makes this cake so great. This is a more traditional Guinness like the ones you might find in Irish pubs. It’s not recommended to use a milder beer since the flavor won’t be as rich.

There is no difference in the success of this cake without the extra stout beer. For those not interested in buying a large quantity of beer, Guinness Foreign Extra is available in small 4-packs at many grocery stores.

What is the best way to store chocolate Guinness cake?

The frosting on the chocolate Guinness cake should be stored in the refrigerator since it contains cream cheese. To keep the frosting neat, use a cake dome. Taking it out of the fridge up to two hours before serving allows it to reach room temperature. Keep leftover cake moist by pressing plastic wrap over the exposed surface after it has been cut.

    5. When the pans are cool enough to handle, remove from the oven and let them sit in them until they are completely cool. Let cake cool completely on a cooling rack once it has been removed from the pan.
    6. The frosting is made by creaming powdered sugar and butter together. Just enough milk and cocoa powder will make it easy to mix. Adding vanilla extract and melted chocolate will enhance the flavor.
    7. Prepare the cake for frosting. The icing is sometimes placed in the refrigerator before frosting the cake to let it firm up. Prepare the cakes for frosting.Chocolate Guinness Beer Cake Recipe
